Hi, I’m Rebecca.

Photographer and filmmaker based in Newfoundland.

Self Portrait, Rebecca Rowsell

A Little About Me

I’m drawn to photographing people as they are — unfiltered, present, and in the moment. Whether it’s a portrait session, an event, or a personal project, the goal is always the same: to create images that feel honest and real.

Most of my work leans toward a documentary style, where observation matters more than perfection.

Originally from Ontario, I recently moved to Newfoundland with my partner, who grew up here. We made the move with our two dogs.

Most days you’ll find us hiking, snowshoeing in the winter, or near the water — or, honestly, just hanging out at home.

My Approach

Before photography, I spent a decade working in community safety and social work. That experience still shapes how I approach my work — listening, paying attention, and noticing the small details.

When I’m photographing someone, the goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable and can just be yourself.

  • Documentary at heart

Focused on real moments rather than overly staged ones.

  • Relaxed and collaborative

Sessions are easygoing and natural so people can just be themselves.

  • Guidance when it helps

Direction when needed; minimal and never forced moments.

If that feels like a good fit, feel free to reach out.
